STARRR PROGRAM Overview
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS FOR THE ARTS AND 3 Rs
FISHFACE at PS 130
STARRR is a unique company of professional actors, musicians and artists working with students and teachers in the New York City public schools.
Possessing Occasional Per Diem teaching licenses, and having passed 50 hours of STARRR training, these theater professionals become SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS in participating schools. They cover classes bringing a day of arts-based literacy and math instruction to their substitute teaching assignments.
Additionally, STARRRs serve as TEACHING ARTISTS within their schools, teaming with staff to enliven academic instruction with the performing arts.
STARRR Players & Co provides an extended day Drama program which supports regular day literacy and math instruction. Young actors with their professional MENTORS create stage and television productions for the school community.
Professionals are recruited and trained for STARRR
by The Actors’ Fund Work Program.
